“Stepping Aside” A Day Retreat for Lay Ministers

“Come away… and rest for a while” — Mark 6:31
The Commission on Ministry is inviting lay ministers across the Church of Ireland to step back from the demands of ministry for a day of prayer, reflection and renewal.
Stepping Aside is the first Commission on Ministry initiative designed specifically with lay ministers in mind — a day that isn’t about doing more, but about being still with God, reconnecting with your calling, and finding support in the company of others who share it.
Pause. Reconnect. Be renewed.
Lay ministry can be demanding, and it’s easy for those who give so much to others to go without the space to be renewed themselves. This retreat offers a welcoming day to step aside from those demands, re-centre your calling in God, and receive afresh in community.
The day offers space to:
  • Reflect on your vocation as a lay minister
  • Pray, listen and receive
  • Be renewed in your heart and calling
  • Build connections with others in ministry
  • Lay down what you carry before God
What to expect:
  • Guided reflections and spiritual input
  • Personal prayer and silent reflection
  • Fellowship and informal conversation
Whether you come feeling energised in ministry or weary from the journey, this day is for you.
